G+_L I
I currently use Google Voice through Hangouts. Back before the GV/H integration (and probably before 4.4) I was able to create a shortcut to a contact that would pop up their phone numbers along with a messaging shortcut next to each phone number. Tapping the shortcut would open up Google Voice in texting mode. I don't know where the change came from but since Android went to 4.4 and Google Voice got integrated to Hangouts that option is no longer available on tablets. Does anyone have a decent workaround for shortcuts for texting through Hangouts... on a Tablet?
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Interesting. I'm not sure. It doubt this was 4.4's doing. I think this was more the GV/Hangout integration. That being said, is there still a "Direct Message" widget, or is that disabled as well? If it is, have you tried using Nova Launcher (or the like)? It might still provide that option on tablets. I'll try to remember when I get home tonight to see if this works on my N7.
G+_L I
There's one there for phones and it sort-of works - always asks you if you want to text over GV or the carrier number. I think the problem is on the People/Contacts app not having the widget or this button available on tablets. I also wonder if the reason it was there in the first place may have been some default.prop manipulation with the version of CM I was running. G+_R.C. Curtright
If you turn on SMS through Hangouts then that button will open hangouts. Don't worry though. When it opens Hangouts, by default the 'send from' number will be whatever you last used to contact them. So in your case it would default to your Google Voice number. G+_R.C. Curtright
Crud, you said tablet. Maybe that doesn't apply if you can't enable SMS.
G+_L I
R.C. Curtright yeah I wonder if I'll have to root this tablet and fudge around with things. Or maybe I could learn to write something that will call that intent. Weekend project.
