G+_L I
Well, it's going to be different. That's something. I for one don't like how Google insists on organizing photos by date in their default views. I always end up back in QuickPic since it uses my folders by default and doesn't try to think for me. But maybe I'll come around. G+_Neil Sedlak
In the Google world, you stop worrying about folders and use albums for sorting.
G+_L I
I don't see why they couldn't infer albums from folders on local storage.
G+_Neil Sedlak
It's all about the auto backup feature. They very intentionally ignore folders and even devices in order to provide a consistent experience. It's much more efficient, avoids duplication, avoids data disappearing, and allows them to provide the same views (albums) of your images everywhere, on all devices as well as the web. If you don't use auto backup, then yeah Google Photos isn't as compelling and QuickPic is a good option. That was my choice too until I got tired of manually archiving and migrating photos. I hope that helps.
G+_L I
Well we'll see how the new photo app works. I very rarely take photos with my phone - the photos I have are brought in from other sources. But I am looking at options for photo (and other data) backup so maybe the new app will appeal more.
