The more and more I read the more I'm starting to realize that the old Google Wallet NFC payment app was a bit of a hack that probably carried a lot more risk for Google than they were willing to have. I also wonder if the rollout has to do with the new rules for payment processing and liabilities which I think go into effect in October.

 

As someone who uses a lot of root apps like TItanium, Tasker and a custom hosts file, Android Pay may not be in my future. That said, there are some reports that AP can be hacked in to work. We'll see.
