G+_Pelle Åhlander
When doing projects with arduino and using ebay bought LEDs and sensors from china. should i be worried about leaving things on? Any risks like burning down the house with projects small projects? Any known accidents as a result of bad components? Is there any way to stress test things? G+_Bill H. Sr. McMullen
You are prudent to be concerned about the dubious quality of cheaply produced parts. However, you are I am sure aware that LED bulbs produce much less heat than the former standard incandescent bulbs; as well as only sipping electricity. G+_Taylor Graham
Fuse it if you're worried. Use a decent relay that's normally off, keep an eye on it for the first few hours. I wouldn't worry for low current leds, but a maybe for an array. Pico fuses are cool for small stuff too.
G+_Pelle Åhlander
thanks ill have a look at it.
G+_Ben Reese
It's an interesting question. The predicament in that video is very different than what you might have working on low amperage 5v circuits - hopefully. I've been shocked with AC current several times, but we use 120v for mains in the US. The problem he's explaining could very well be an incorrectly wired light socket as much as an incorrectly installed bulb. Unfortunately, that bulb just has a poorly designed circuit. G+_Pelle Åhlander
i will be using 5V, but i rather ask first just incase there is anything i need to watch out for. I might use 12V depending on wich ledstrip i will be using.
G+_Taylor Graham
You'll be fine at 5v or 12v. Use a little fuse. If you're running something on 120, then id put a bit of thought into it. My arduino uno has been acting as thermostat for a 60w heater for almost 2 years. Its fused, on a normally closed relay, so i don't worry about it too much.
