G+_Eric Kolesnikovas
So as recommended by +Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ I am looking at getting a Syma drone to try flying before building one or getting a large one. However I have this question for the community: What drone / controller is recommend and camera? Looking at things on amazon from $50 and up. I would like to build one this spring/summer so could I get a controller that would work with the Syma and one I build later or just keep it simple and get a bundled pack? G+_Jeff Brand
The Syma, and any toy-level quad will have a proprietary transmitter protocol and requires the use of the transmitter that comes with it. There are some exceptions that use a standard, but they're few and far between. When you're ready to take the next step, I highly recommend the FlySky FS-i6. It's a $50 transmitter and receiver with telemetry support. The older t6 transmitter that has been recommended uses more batteries and has different switch configurations. It's not bad, but I really like my i6. Additional receiver units are in the $11-15 range. I've also purchased a $27 FlySky car remote for an old Traxxas RC truck that I've upgraded to 21st century tech. The remote uses a rechargeable Lipo battery which works very well. G+_Eric Kolesnikovas
Thanks Jeff Brand? that is all great information. I will keep that controller on my list for a build.
G+_Larry Havenstein
As far as bundled learning pack you can't do bad with either a Syma X5 or X8. The X8 has enough umph to hang even a Gopro on it for pictures. The included cameras though are not high rez. Either way though you will have to get a normal Transmitter/Reciver combo when you move to bigger equiptment. FlySky FS6 line is a great starter or if you want to go more pro you can't go wrong with Futaba. If you buy nicer equiptment, they come with better servos and better quality controls in the transmitter. Basicly that will make more difference as the equiptment ages. Since servos are not used typically for multi-rotors that is less of a problem. However if you wish to use the gear for RC Aircraft also then you should keep the servos in mind.
