G+_Richard Hedderly
I need guidance, HiveMind.... I need to put a Rasp Pi 3 in a very tight space. I can do it IF I trim the corners off the PCB on the HDMI socket side. I've looked online and some say to use an Exacto/Craft knife where others say to use a Dremel. Any preference?? G+_Richard Hedderly
Thanks +Taylor Graham "depends on how much work you want to do and how steady your hand is. If you're good with a dremel, and/or have a grinding wheel, just nip the edges off quickly. If you aren't good with a dremel its probably best to use a razor since there's less possibility of the tool jumping and breaking your pie, though im sure it will take longer." G+_Eddie Foy
should be ok. But these are multi layer PCBs, hard to see the inner traces. But looking at the pic, I'd hope the DRC would pick up anything that close to the edge.
G+_Eddie Foy
Can you move the mountain to Mohammad instead?
G+_Eddie Foy
I'd use a file or sand paper. its not that much to trim, more control.
G+_Ben Reese
Sharp fingernail or toenail clippers might work on the corner. I'd probably try a fine-grain sander or grinder though. Dremel would also be an option. I don't think I'd use a knife just because of the risk of slipping and cutting into the board. Just depends on your level of confidence and how much you're willing to risk damaging it.
G+_Eddie Foy
I wouldn't use the nail clippers (or dykes or the like) They cut with a crushing method. This can lead to delamination. You also aren't 'supposed to' use them to cut semiconductor leads either; it 'can' cause a damaging shock-wave
G+_Jason Perry
I think I would use a file. cutting sounds like a bad idea
