Jason Perry? what are you looking for in a tester? I'm using a real cheap one that just checks continuity on each wire (about like this one: Network Cable Tester https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00118038Y/), but more expensive devices will do a lot more. When I did cabling full-time, my regular tester had 4 remote nodes so I could test several a few separate cables without having to run back and forth from the server closet.

Ben Reese I have one that is very similar. I would like one that can tell me which end I messed up on or if the cable is broke somewhere in the middle. Other diagnostic tools would be nice, but not necessary, so I wouldnt have to flip between that and a computer I have on weels I currently use to help counteract the general effects of users on on a network.

I volunteer for a not for profit that relies on creative ways to make things work so despite my best efforts I find routers inproperly wired into the network creating conflicts ALL THE TIME.

Ben Reese I'm looking for top notch tools, with an eye toward cable certification. The kind of stuff Fluke gear is known for.

Jason Perry I can confirm that it is not the LinkRunner (at least the Rev 1 that I have). The LinkRunner can in fact tell you where the problem is as it includes a TDR. Although there are limits to it's effectiveness, I have found that if the TDR refuses to probe out the cable, the cable is FUBAR & should be replaced.
