G+_Derrick M
Hello everyone! Long time listener and I must say that I really enjoy your stuff. Very active community here. So I would like to share something with you all. Let me start by saying that I am not affiliated with the product that I am going to sing the praises of today. I simply find it really cool and would like to share it with all of you to get the word out. If any of you are like me you may be very interested in vr but can't afford the crazy cost of anything out right now (other than osvr). Well if u have an android phone and a google cardboard or similar viewer then a little program called vridge by the company riftcat may be for you. It is in a public beta right now and they have a very active group of devs releasing updates every Thursday. It is a pc to phone streamer app that uses the gyro on your phone for tracking. The difference between this software and others (like trinus vr) is that it emulates the run times of both oculus (older sdks 0.6-0.8) and the htc vive headset so you can play many steam vr titles. Being that this is still in beta they recommend that you don't buy titles at this time with the express intent of playing on this program but there are plenty of demos and other free titles to try out. A member of the community recently found another open source project that uses the Leap Motion the emulate basic hand tracking as well as button gestures for the vive. This project is still in an alpha stage and is hit or miss at times, so again I wouldn't run out and buy one just to try it but for those of you that have a dusty Leap Motion laying around you may as well give it a shot. (BTW there is a seller on Amazon selling new unopened Leap Motion controllers for $29 prime shipping available. That's where I got mine. Controller and active USB 3.0 extension cable for less than half the price!) Like I said I'm not affiliated with any of these companies. Just trying to get these devs the attention they deserve. The website is riftcat.com and there is a subreddit called vridge. Check them out and have some fun while we wait for the prices to drop on all this vr goodness.
