Watched the KH episode about the vidget spinners. Just currious Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ? why not tu use 3D printed center fillings insted of brass ones? I also have made some spinners for my daughter and friends. I used to print the center personalised with the letter. It is hard to see in this picture, but in real life looks nice. :)

I agree that printing customized centers is a good idea. They may not be as study as the brass ones for the final build to hold in the cradle. On the other hand, with custom printed centers you are able to index them and make them lock into the cradle so they won't spin.

If the center size is correct, they lock in to bearrings quite well. My bearrings are not the best ones - old ones removed from old equipment and washed with isopropanol. :)

I mean lock into the cradle. If you printed them square instead of round and then had a square slot in the cradle, they would not have a tendency to spin in the cradle as it got faster.

Should be fine as long as it's a tight fit. A loose bearing would precess around the axel and cause wear.

Here is a hint from a novice yo-yoer, if you want the longest spin (not quietest) use mineral spirits to clean out the bearing, this will remove any excess oils. Then attach the bearing to a Dremel and spin it at extremely high speeds.
