G+_Dennis Millican
I just made the jump and bought a Monoprice Maker Select Plus 3D printer and I have a simple question. Should PLA filament be stored sealed and kept in a low humidity environment?
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
I have the same printer. I say yes to that. When I keep spools out in the open it tends to get brittle and snap. So I keep them in the original boxes. I use Hatchbox filament. Inside the box is a little bag of desiccant so I keep it in there. Look into the Micro Swiss hotend mods... Oh, and if you didn’t know, this printer is a clone of the Wanhao Duplicator i3, so if there’s something for that printer then it’s usually good for the Msker Select Plus. G+_Mike Matsco
I keep mine in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag, with a desiccant pack or two, in the original box. I usually suck out as much of the air as possible, you don't need a vacuum, to limit the moisture. I have six spools of different colors that I switch between and all seem to keep well. G+_Dan Baldwin
Yes to storing pla with desiccant otherwise it snaps when being fed into printer.
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Dan Baldwin Yep... that’s why whenever I want to load a roll I cut about 8-10 inches from the end, then bend it a little to see if it snaps. If it doesn’t, then I’m good to go.
G+_Dennis Millican
Thanks everybody. I have stocked up on gallon bags and desiccant sachets. I hope my sweetheart hasn't thrown out the boxes with the recycles...
