G+_Wolf 68k
Long viewer, first time caller....oh wait that doesn't really work here. At any rate, is there anyone in the Houston area (Spring Branch) with a 3D printer that can print what I would think would be a simple item for me? I have a Thrustmaster T300 racing wheel and I would like to have a way to mount a Nexus 7 2013 to it so that it is just above the top of the rim. But I don't wanted it limited to the Nexus 7, it just needs to be big enough to use a device of at least that size, and mount to the wheel base. G+_Travis Hershberger
Look for a maker space in the area. They normally have a 3d printer available.
G+_Wolf 68k
Tried that. The ones I could find are either closed or their website still says they are way far out. Unless I'm not searching right; maker space houston
G+_Travis Hershberger
Yuck. The Akron, OH library actually has a 3d-printer for public use as well, maybe try the public library as well. You could also pay to have a part made for you. I forget what the reputable companies are that do that tho.

G+_Wolf 68k
Ok now I feel a bit stupid. I didn't think to search for '3d printing Houston' Hopefully some of these places will let me walk in and show them what I want. I have no idea, and no skill, how to make the files these type of places need.
G+_Steven Werds
You should play around with tinkercad, its been on the show quite few times and it's free
G+_John Sullivan
I had a simple project and needed a five sided box about 200 mm by 200 mm, and 150 mm deep. I designed it in tinkercad. It also had a large "window" (rectangle) cut out of the bottom, and two "walls" inside. The thickness of all walls was 1mm. I submitted the file to two online print businesses. The first wanted $56 USD to print and ship it, the second wanted $76 ! I finally modified a plastic food container that I was going to throw away, painted it, and it's in place right now. G+_David Peach
John Sullivan, 200 X 200 X 150, even hollow, would take a long time to print. Wolf 68k, you should try to learn Tinkercad and design it yourself. Unless you find someone who is overly kind, you may have trouble getting someone to design it. I have told my friends that I would print anything they want for what it costs me. But if they want me to do the design it would cost $20 an hour and I am a lousy designer. So it might take me twice as long (or more) than someone who knows what they are doing. Even if someone only spends 30 minutes laying out your project for you, then you should be willing to pay handsomely for that. Those are skills anyone can learn (and get better with practice). And those who have actually put in the time to learn should be rewarded.
