G+_Timothy Hamlett
Ok, so I have a geeky project. I'm trying to do everything with my phone instead of carrying around my laptop. I can mount flash drives, connect it to a second screen, and use the bundle of sensors built into the phone. Do any of you know-it-alls have any suggestions (or questions)? I have two main hurdles I'd like to overcome: bring able to use/mount ISOs and DVDs and connecting SATA devices. Any solutions?
G+_Ben Reese
I've decompressed ISOs on my phone to a folder, but haven't mounted one as a drive. DVDs may be tricky depending on what you intend to accomplish. I think DVD video requires a licensed codec or something and that's not a standard part of the Android suit. I would expect data disks to work using a OTG cable. There are a few SATA to USB adapters available that should make the drive mountable storage on Android. I haven't actually tried that though. When you're looking for other options; Servers Ultimate could be used on another Android device to host websites, file servers, DNS, databases... G+_Timothy Hamlett
Well, I did find this (if it works, well with the $2.37) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softwarebakery.drivedroid.paid and this (sort of what you were talking about Ben Reese ) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.qzx.isoextractor
G+_Ben Reese
ISO Extractor might be the one I used a while back. I downloaded Win 3.11 on an ISO and wanted to try it on DOS Box. (Works ?). The DriveDroid just seems awesome! Could see that handy for something like Hirens Boot Disk or the Ultimate Boot Disk. I've also thought it would be cool to have a virtual DVD drive that could be booted to (like when you want to install an OS but don't have a physical drive). G+_Jacob Alvarez
I believe you can use an external hd now that you're rooted
G+_Ben Reese
Don't typically have to be rooted to use USB storage - just need a phone that supports USB On The Go and most do.
G+_Timothy Hamlett
I am rooted (one of the first things I did when I got my HTC One M8). I haven't tried an external HD, but I suppose I could try using a USB to SATA adapter, but I would prefer to be able to use USB power (USB batter pack) instead of an outlet. G+_Timothy Hamlett
I also found this - a USB DVD burner that is also powered by USB (my battery pack). If any media player will have the functionality to play a DVD, I'm guessing that VLC beta will sometime soon (if it doesn't already).
