G+_Timothy Hamlett
Hey guys (and girls), I'm trying a weird setup, but here it goes. The building I work in is very old, which wreaks havoc on 4G. In some rooms, you get nothing at all. The "official" WiFi is for those devices that actually belong to the school (so not my phone or laptop). There is a guest WiFi, and the signal is strong throughout the building, but sometimes my phone drops it. It has annoying browser login where it CAN'T save the password, so it's super annoying to have to reconnect on my phone. So here's my idea. I do have my laptop with me which has two WiFi cards. Is there a way I can connect my laptop to the guest WiFi and then rebroadcast it (latency is not an issue, really) in a second network that my phone can work with better. Windows or Linux, it really doesn't matter. Thanks!

G+_Ben Reese
You can also do it with a single WiFi card, but it would work better with 2 on different channels. Might also be careful that you're not violating any company policies, but working at a school you probably aren't.
G+_Eddie Foy
Ben Reese You can do it with a single wifi? How so? Virtual-ize it?
G+_Ben Yanke
You might also be able to pick up one of those pocket routers and run it on a battery in your bag.
G+_Ben Reese
Yup. It's a hidden feature requiring a compatible wifi adapter (which most are). I've heard Microsoft was going to make the features easier to access, but never did. This might be the same info as that Lifehacker article, but it's pretty simple: http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3849841/How-to-Create-Wireless-Hosted-Networks-in-Windows-7.htm Eddie Foy? G+_Timothy Hamlett
Got it up and running. It works throughout the entire building using my directional antennas (I just have to aim at the other end of the school).
