G+_Timothy Hamlett
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Oh Padre, I don't know which to choose! Seriously.... I'm looking to get two SSDs in order to set up a Raid array for my boot drive. My board is definitely fast enough to handle it, but I have two problems: 1. Which SSD to use? I can't choose between the Kingston KC300 or the Kingston HyperX 3K! Any recommendations? 2. Which RAID to use? I'm looking for a performance boost, but I'm not worrying about "losing data" if one SSD fails (remote possibility, even so I have 3-2-1 backup in place). G+_Travis Hershberger
I'd go with the HyperX 3K, some of the 300 series had quality problems if I remember right. It''s scary RAID time! RAID 0 for performance. A smart enough controller is going to split reads and writes evenly between the drives, double speed! One of these days the price of PCIe attached flash (the ones that don't convert to sata at all) will get close enough in price to make them the obvious choice for speed. SATA just can't keep up with the recent generations of SSD drives.
G+_Steve C
No matter which one you get don't buy it from Newegg. If one goes bad they won't give your money back. They might send you another bad one but won't ever give a refund.
G+_T Nohands
newegg only honors extra paid warranty on top of the manufacturer infact newegg normally refer to the manufacturers warranty buy good products I've always had great experience with newegg however when it comes ssd's you get the luck of the draw because the longer they are in transport the more chance the are going to be mishandled and damage so buy good brands Padre likes the enterprise version of kingston which doesn't mean there's anything wrong with any kingston ssd I've always prefered Sandisk or the Samsung 850 series not the 840's and so far I've not seen or heard of problems with Sandisk or the 850 pro and if it's speed you want getting a Sandisk or 850 pro are fast so fast that kingston in raid 0 might notice a slight increase but not much unless your running servers or virtual servers ie hyper-v but if you just using it for a desktop workstation or gaming you would not notice the increase because what makes it seem so fast is the read time not so much the write time and thats the only advantage raid 0 is going to offer if your running photoshop it's the gpu that makes it faster not the hard drive which is why most workstation and photo and video editing rigs us memory processor and gpu going with large capacity drives with an ssd for the os to run on. Whatever the case of what brand or how you use it, if you order any hard drive whether hdd or ssd it's better to pay for expedited shipping so there's a better chance you'll get a good drive. Asking around it seems expedited shipping or a real electronics store like microcenter or fry's as opposed to best buy unless you order with expedited shipping there are far less problems with the drives bought somewhere specific computer/electronics store or ordered with expedited shipping than drives that arrived normal shipping or bought off a shelf or behind a counter not locked up in a case if a store does not respect their value then they probably won't respect them enough to take proper care of them. Hope that helps
