I burned out my ESC.  It was an Andoer SimonK 30 amp unit powering a 2200KV motor.  It ran on a 3S 20C lipo.

 

I guess it's back to the drawing board.

That's actually the second time it happened, but with a different motor!  Maybe I should switch to a different ESC brand.

The prop size is absolutely important when it comes to what your motor is drawing on the ESC -- you really need to use a watt meter like this http://goo.gl/CXJ68J.  But agreed, you should be okay with a 5x4.  

You are running some very high-KV motors for a quad.  2200kv is usually used on EDFs or like a FunJet.  Do not get any ESC less than 30A though -- even the mfgr specs advise a 30A.  I'd just chalk this one up as some bad parts from that brand.

Kellen Razzano 2200KV is not abnormal for a 250-class quad. He looks to be running a 250 or 260 class diatone frame. I use 2208-2300KV motors on those... and that's the right prop size.

 

My 450 class quads use 935kv, and my 660 class use 450kv.

Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ? hah, what am I thinking, I have 2300kv's on my 250 as well. ...That's what I get for thinking about quads during an office meeting.
