G+_David Wiggins
I find myself in need of a new project thermometer today, and figured I'd ask here for a recommendation that hits the sweet spot between price, accurate and reliability. Thanks in advance.
G+_Eddie Foy
thermometer or thermostat? If you want accuracy, always test them. Put in ice water, should read 32F/0C and boiling water 212F/100C. (at sea level) Best to use distilled water. I like the old mercury (or red jiuce) style if speed isn't an issue.
G+_David Wiggins
Thermometer. I am debating anything from pharmacy Merc, something like a kitchen model or even a fancy laser one (granted the last is likely to pricy for a dependable one)
G+_Eddie Foy
Also depends on what you are measuring. solids, liquids, surfaces, gases, and temp range. I like the merc ones, but have a tough time getting a good angle to read them. But they are simple, repeatable and once initial calibration/test, remain accurate. I've had issues with the infrad read ones, (unless a high quality one.) giving varying temps as I get closer. (but I do trust my thermal cam after set up) Thermocouplers are very stable and accurate.
