G+_David Wiggins
North Carolina is considering a right to repair bill- HB 663 https://actionnetwork.org/letters/support-right-to-repair-in-north-carolina?source=direct_link& https://actionnetwork.org/letters/support-right-to-repair-in-north-carolina?source=gplus
G+_Rickbearcat
Competent third parties should be allowed to repair your stuff. There should not be a monopoly by the manufacturers on hog tieing you to them for warranty services. It also creates jobs.
G+_Black Merc
Funny, a long time ago, their was this idea, that if you wanted your stuff to last, you had to maintain it! Today people think(or are told) repairs and routine maintenance must be done by authorized technical professionals. B.S.! Hacker spaces are full of people that want to fixit/buildit/makeit yourself. Not because they have to but, they want to. People like that have more worth in that product, for they have blood, sweat and tears into it. G+_Golden Retriever
Does that mean in North Carolina you would be able to tinker with the code in the Ford Combine?
G+_David Wiggins
Rickbearcat That's pretty much what I told my reps. The problem is votes seem to be based on opposing the other team rather than considered positions. And both sides seem to do this. Anyway, if anyone here is in NC, take a moment to make yourself heard. Tod Sage one hopes. However, I do imagine even if this does pass, things like service contracts would still be contingent on 'no tinker'. Still at least the choice will be preserved. G+_Golden Retriever
I'm in NC but the home residence address line even if your doing for your company creeped me out. Too much info needed.
G+_David Wiggins
I know what you mean. Just about any form for contacting government reps have these to verify residence to the people in the office that you are in their district. It helps make it slightly less likely to be completely ignored. On another note, I received a not quite form letter response from one of the staffers.
