G+_Alexander Tollet
Question about how to best extend the WiFi network on the Synology RT2600? Im about to buy an Synology RT2600 (After the good endorsement from Know How) and I want WiFi coverage in the whole house. I have Cat 6 cables to every room in the house that I can connect all the WiFi access points to. It is important that the access point are on the same WiFi network as the RT2600, and all the traffic are managed by the RT2600. Will be grateful for an answer from the pros in the Know How community.
G+_David Peach
At work I'm using a Ubiquiti AP to cover the office. It uses power over Ethernet (PoE) so that I only needed to run a network cable to it. Mine came with a PoE injector in case my switch didn't have the capability (it did). Been pleased with it. Don't have much experience with other AP devices so I'm not sure my recommendation means much. But it is at least a place to start researching for your quest. G+_Travis Hershberger
I'd save some money and go with Ubiquity's ER-X and 2 UAP-AC-LITE. You've already got the network cables in place, so adding those should be easy. All one management pane for the WiFi at that point. Of course the router isn't as easy to use, but it's just as capable as a full Cisco.
G+_Alexander Tollet
Thanks for the answer. Do you use the Ubiquitys on the same WiFi network with the same SSID as the RT2600, and all traffic are managed by the RT2600?
G+_Travis Hershberger
Alexander Tollet I'm saying go all Ubiquity without the RT2600. If you go with an RT2600, just get a standard wifi extender. Since Synology doesn't make those devices yet, it's hard to say what will work well with them.
G+_Benjamin Webb
Any router running DD-WRT or OpenWRT that is dual band AC can connect at 5 ghz then repeat the signal at 2.4 ghz. Not as fancy as Ubiquity stuff and not so fun to set up but find a 2 router setup like that is fine for most houses. I usually suggest sticking with same chipset radio if possible when doing this. Do not know what synology is running.
