G+_Michael Renyard
Hello all: I've been looking for an aswer to a question I have and can't find one, I hope someone can answer this. I drive a Tractor Trailer and would like to install a bluetooth stereo in it. Due to all the noise in the truck the hands free system is useless, is it possible to listen to a podcast via bluetooth on the radio yet answer calls with a bluetooth headst? Thanks in advance. G+_Ben Reese
Using Android you should be able to and likely iPhone too. In the bluetooth settings for each paired device you can choose what BT profiles are used. With my LG set I can enable/disable phone and music independently. For your setup you'd want to enable phone on your headset and music on your radio.
G+_Brent Burzycki
Depending on the supported mics and BT units some offer some pretty good noise cancellation that might help on the hands free side. As for the rest - Ben Reese is correct - it depends on the ability of the device.. and how much they offer for feature set...
G+_Chris Burgess
You can do this on Android devices. Just go to the bluetooth settings, click on the gear next to the car stereo and un-check the phone audio. Then you can connect both devices at the same time (unless the headset does audio as well)
G+_T Nohands
you can on both latest versions of andriod and Apple ios but I really wouldn't recommend it your just asking for trouble you answer your phone then your no longer hands free and you'll just end up be begging for a ticket. G+_Chris Burgess
Hi T Nohands, That's the idea of connecting both devices at the same time, phone calls on the earpiece and music/podcasts on the stereo
G+_T Nohands
All I can say is it's not a good Idea even Leo and Heather Hamann on The Tech Guy tell everyone if they're in a vehicle and want to talk on the phone they need to pull over and stop even Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ would agree we may have all done it before but trying to pay attention to any stereo content and pay attention to a conversation on the phone and driving with as much noise as you say then also drive is just to much distraction to overcome while driving for any length of time. If you do tell the person your driving make it quick and wait to discuss anything complex especially the last part because the moment we have to rack our brain to answer a question or remember something complex it's an autonomic physical response to look up and unfocus so make it clear your driving and to keep it short and most important keep it simple or wait to pull over and stop to have any lengthy complex phone conversations.. G+_T Nohands
I do have some prospective towards your situation having a family in the occupation and yes those cabs are noisy giving up sound insulation in favor for lighter weight and gas milage. I've mentioned to them since they own their rig that they could add a lot more weight fixing up a more qiute or alow the driver to choose the sound effects they wish, if they were willing to match the exact dimpling of a golf ball on the outer surface of the rig, and even increase the milage of the rig provided thhey have a flared rear end of the rig so the cargo trallers ca draft behind the cab. He said no, thought it would be too ugly. How ever yes you can acheive your goal without spending extra money, but it depeends on the phone. I don't know about iPhones bbut I have seen differentt andriod devics that have options to disconnect phone through stereo check box and will then still stream through media to the head unit. It's not the best answer I can suggest not knowing the make and model of both your phone and your head unit of your stereo system hopfully you have replaced the stock unit or setup a piggyback head unit if you can't uninstall the stock unit. If you own your own I can tell you all kinds of ways to mod and trickout your rig. However have you considered seperating the devices one that can sync it's media files when you come within range to handle your media and keep your phone as your phone? May cost a little but it is an option I've seen others use. What I was advising was stressing that no one can keepup with multi tasking with that much plus distraction for multiple times on a regular basis for longer than 2 or more minutes becuase at that point driving actions become an autonomic function and at that point your physical reactions and even your reflexes are based off of rutine behavior and goal orriented functions which can overide awareness as well as overding the reflexes that would avoid problems and accidents or cops running speed traps. Yet I understand the desire to overcome and have more control over as much as possible. Just remember conrol is an illusiion, remember that and try seperate disstractions but it's ok to have enough to stay awake and have some entertainment. G+_Michael Renyard
Thanks for your advice . Let me explain what I've done so that you can understand what my goal is and what I have successfully achieved. I have installed a pioneer bluetooth car stereo which is connected via bluetooth to my galaxy note 4 allowing me to listen to music, podcasts, and audible. I also have a blue parrot truckers bluetooth headset. This allows me to answer and make calls . The music stops and starts automatically during calls. I have Automatic Call Recorder to record important call to replay when I am parked and can focus 100% on the call. I prefer to go over and above to be safe. Talking on the bluetooth headset is safer then having to reach for the CB mic repeatedly.
