G+_Golden Retriever
Phil Chung it's easy to map your power box, all you need is a lamp and a flashlight. Kill all circuit breakers, go around the house and try each power plug socket, do same with each circuit breaker. You can skip the big breakers for heating, water heater, stove and such, having a map which sockets are controlled by what circuit breakers has a very good thing to have. Draw a map with all the rooms and where the sockets are in each room and number the breakers and the locations on the map with the circuit breaker number. G+_Phil Chung
Tod Sage I'll give that a go this weekend. From my previous testing though, I think I have the fastest locations for the powerline adapters. Some sockets were even lower speed, so either the routing of the cabling is strange, there are a lot of circuits or there's interference.
G+_Jason Perry
Plug in a radio to the plug you want to use. Make sure you can hear it from your breaker box. Start turning of breakers until you hear the radio turn off. Make sure you have turned the other breakers on. Now it is as simple figuring out what isn't on. G+_Golden Retriever
I think it's interference, AC lines are noisy, you can try unplugging cell phone chargers, turning out lights, unplug your refrigerator, and retest your speed, if you find what device or devices are effecting your speed and cannot live without them, you may be able to put a line conditioner on any noisy devices that you cannot live without. "An AC power conditioner is the typical power conditioner that provides "clean" AC power to sensitive electrical equipment. Usually this is used for home or office applications and has up to 10 or more receptacles or outlets and commonly provides surge protection as well as noise filtering." You want units designed to prevent via noise filtering from going from a noisy device back into your electrical wiring, if you try to put a filter on your power line adaptor it will filter out the signal your trying to transceive.
