G+_Albert Rios
I use Western Digital Livewire in my house to get internet to all rooms. The issue I am having is that I set them up a few years ago with another PC and now I reinstalled the livewire utility but am not able to connect to the power-lines. They all work perfectly and I do have access at all points. I get the HomePlug Adapter was not detected error. When I launch the live wire utility and click on connect. Is anyone able to help me with this issue?
G+_Eddie Foy
Windows firewall issues? Try turning off the firewall/AV for a spell and see if it works. If it does add an exception? Does it show in device manager? (just a general Q, is the data on the 'wire' encrypted with these powerline interfaces? Looks like a fun 'research' project at an apt complex)
G+_Albert Rios
Thanks for the idea but I tuned all firewalls off and still get the same issue
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Remember that homeplug cannot communicate through breakers, power conditioners, power strips, UPS devices and the like. They must be on the same circuit without anything between them and the main.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Assuming we're talking about US power systems here, they communicate across circuit breakers just fine. They just won't communicate between the two halves of the breaker box. The power coming into a house is split onto two branches in the breaker box, which are not physically connected. So, being on a different circuit may be just fine, so long as they're on the correct "side" of the breaker box. Just for the record, it's a LOT easier to just say they won't work across circuits. While technically correct, it's not quite the whole story, but also a lot shorter explanation!
G+_Albert Rios
The powerline is working fine and I get internet at all ends and the main HomePlug is plugged into the wall. All is working as designed. My issue is that I cannot access them through the livewire utility. I keeping getting the error I stated above. we are talking about: Western Digital WD Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit.

G+_Travis Hershberger
Sounds like it might be a security key that was lost when the old computer went away. Have you tried resetting any of the homeplug devices?
G+_Jason Marsh
Powerline networking will work through breakers, and can even cross from one power leg to the other in your breaker box. This is how mine is working, and I didn't have to add a capacitor or anything to bridge the two branches. It works much better when you can put your powerline devices on the same leg. It won't work well, or perhaps at all, across long runs such as from your house to the neighbor's house on the same transformer. Albert Rios You'll have to reset each powerline device to factory defaults if you want to be able to manage or add to the setup. G+_Albert Rios
Right now it is working and I am preparing for a trip so I will put more time into resetting the whole system as I figured that was what I had to do but was avoiding it.; If it's not broke! Thank you all for the post, I will re-post once I reset the whole system as to what happens.
