G+_James Bird
Working on a PicoTurbine kit Wind Turbine. The directions come in the form of a parts list and assembly steps, leaving me in an unfamiliar spot of believing the next steps are to improvise. The little electrical motor must be used to generate electricity by the turning of the magnets taped to the disk driven by wind. A conversation piece sitting on the coffee table for sure. Would like better pictures.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Take any electric motor, figure out a way to mount wind vanes on it, done. Vanes can be cut out of a piece of PVC tubing, patterns should be available online, I'd normally find one for you but it's way past my bedtime. G+_T Nohands
I once worked with a think tank that made a design to recycle and convert old marry go rounds into wind turbines and wish I still had the electrical wiring diagrams to post here for you so you could get a good idea of how to build yours. I say good for you on your project and one tip is to take apart a ceiling fan for a good starting point (preferably not one your using in your home so try your neighbors ;) ) We use to just add magnets to the flywheel inside add a wind catch to turn it, and since it's already prewired there you go, although they don't power much. You can find those instructions on youtube for making generators out of ceiling fans so maybe that might help you. ;) Hey Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ converting a motor into a wind generator would make a great Know How episode just steal some magnets from bad hard drives and a motorized device from Leo and have fun with it! :D
