Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ? Bryan Burnett? I was watching the most recent episode on stepper motors and had a question. What is the difference in using a UBEC vs a buck converter? Thanks in advance.

I use Buck Converters all the time in my projects. I would say he uses the BEC because he has them, and he can grab any of his LiPos and plug them right into the BEC and the the BEC has the correct connectors for the servo tester he uses. Quick and easy for the show.

I ordered a couple of UBECs that showed up yesterday and I think I see why you would use them over a buck converter. They are smaller and not open like a buck.

I'm kinda liking the UBEC form factor.

I do wonder about the power waste in the UBEC form vs the buck. I'm looking for something that will last a LONG time.... > 4 months...
