G+_James Hughes
I have a friend who has come into the possession of a bunch of family photos, slides, and 8mm movies. He doesn't have a Costco membership. Any suggestions for digitizing them?

G+_Mike Siefker
It all depends. If you have a bunch of photos, slides and 8mm sending it out will be very expensive. Price around a couple of places and get an estimate on what it will cost. IF.... he has time or the price is going to be prohibitive, think of these options. Get a scanner for the family photos. I have found this works great for the 8mm. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KA32HH0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 For the slides I have used.... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004S7C4LY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 With the slides, this attachment fits on a DSLR camera, point it at a light source and snap a picture. I take a photo in JPG and one in RAW. The RAW photo is easier to work with in Adobe Photoshop. But if the slides aren't aged or faded the JPG file will work great too. G+_Jason Brown
I wouldn't send the pictures out. There's a risk that they'll lose them all, and typically they absolve themselves of responsibility in the TOS. Invest in a decent scanner that you can feed a stack of photos into, grab some coffee, and make that your weekend.
