Hello, I've recently become hooked on your show. I've watched Windows Weekly for years and found your show few weeks ago. I've been watching many of the archived shows.

I have an internet cable service and they claim that my speed has been increasing over the years and my bill goes up as well.

Is there a way to see if my modem and router are capable of letting this 'faster service' pass through for my use?

Thanks and looking forward to what the New Year bring with the changes you have planned.

Jim

Looking up the specs on the modem is probably the easiest way, but there should probably be a DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0 label somewhere on the modem. The Wikipedia page for DOCSIS has a bandwidth table of what the max speeds for each version are: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOCSIS

It's also probably possible to get to the modems config page and there should be something in there about the up link / down link limits set by you ISP. I've always found DSL and cable modems at 192.168.100.1 - even if it's acting as a bridge and passing the public IP to your router. Your mileage may vary.
