G+_Jimmy Castro
Trying figure out the best way to create a long distance ptp wireless antenna alignment tool (10km max). I was thinking of using two Raspberry Pi's and a GPS/Compass module and some type of long range communication that would send the information to the other pi. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do this?
G+_Ben Reese
Not to discourage a killer Pi project idea, but cell phones already have everything you'd need and there are probably apps already available. Then depending on the long range antenna you choose, it may have additional alignment tools built in. Ubiquiti does at least for some of their products. I've seen better examples of this - I think even from Crosstalk Solutions - but I'm pretty sure he's showing odd the alignment tools here: https://youtu.be/c77mPeOw_-4&t=22m37s Here's an example of an app that might do what you need: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.esys.antennapointer youtu.be - Ubiquiti PTMP Mixed Mode Part
G+_Jason Perry
I know how discouraging it can be to point something over such a distance, you move it a little and the signal drops like a rock. Ben's suggestion is the best I have ever come up with. A good compass app for your phone is the best I have ever come up with. In your case there are compass apps that will show you the direction of a waypoint.
