G+_Alex Hulinsky
So what do you guys think is the best TV antenna for around $20-30?
G+_Steve C
There aren't any good antennas for $20-$30! Anything in that price range would be no better than a rabbit ears you can get at the dollar store for $1 and neither one will work very well unless you are in the city really close to the TV transmitter. If you are out in the suburbs or the country you need to spend over $100 to get a good roof antenna.
G+_G Riedell
... and in fringe areas, several hundred dollars for a tower, same for the concrete base for the tower, plus additional money for grounding, and perhaps $50-$150 for a signal amplifier. Not to mention twice or triple that $100 cost for the antenna, as you want as much gain from it as possible. For me, there are no good (much less "best") television antennas in that $20-$30 price range. How close are you to the transmitter(s)?

G+_Steve C
Most people won't need a tower unless they are way out hundreds of miles in the middle of nowhere or they have hills in the way they want to see over to get a signal from the other side. Just my roof antenna works fine to get all the Phoenix and Tucson stations even though Tucson is 100 miles away.
G+_G Riedell
Trees, terrain, other structures; rain and snow attenuation... guess I'm not as lucky as Steve at 85 and 110 miles from my metro areas. I had to spend hundreds on my antenna system when we switched to digital. Rooftop system was deaf.
G+_Steve C
It probably depends on your stations but here the new digital broadcasters actually have a longer range than the old fashioned analog ones did. Before I could only get a couple of weak snowy channels from Tucson but now they all come in perfectly, they have expanded the coverage area quite a bit
G+_Steve C
Wayne that puny antenna is such a light weight why even bother? For good reception up to 100 miles step up to a Real antenna like this: http://www.amazon.com/Winegard-HD8200U-Platinum-VHF-Antenna/dp/B001DFS4BI/ref=sr_1_6
