G+_Graham Forte
Originally shared by Joseph Cappellino Google Location History vs. Battery Life So, here's a screenshot that shows one thing, the difference in battery life of Google's Location History. What kills me, is that most of the time, I was connected to WiFi, and therefore "not moving" (or at least not moving enough to warrant the steep battery drain). What really sucks, is that this also ties into Google Plus Locations (i.e. - my wife can't see where I am unless she uses Android Device Manager/Cerberus). I'm not sure what else would be affected, but this feature is rather useful for me, so steep drain it is. #locationhistory #batterywoes #firstworldproblems
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Kevin Rieber, the grey area on the right should be "rolling prediction," whereas the dark green area is "actual usage."
G+_Neil Sedlak
What accuracy mode are you using? Try battery saving rather than high if you only need general location.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Neil Sedlak - I mentioned this in the OP. The only difference between Low and High is the GPS. The problem is that Google Location History doesn't actually turn on the GPS to determine location. Additionally, I have to manually turn on the GPS every time I start Waze or Maps. G+_Neil Sedlak
You shouldn't have to turn on GPS on manually to use Maps, so that's a bit strange and points to a different issue. G+_Joseph Cappellino
It's not actually when I go into maps, it's when I try to navigate (which makes sense). I'll leave it on battery saving for now, and see what happens.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
James Eriksen - Actually, I did notice that it was better. But, based on my recent usage (due to being at a PC and having a Moto360) I felt my battery life should be better. So, I decided to experiment. I'm currently attempting with "battery saver", so we'll see if that helps.
G+_L I
Joseph Cappellino? maybe you could use Tasker to turn on GPS when you go into maps?
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Lionel D maybe. I'll look into it.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
It looks like this is only available via root in 2.3+. There is now a manual intervention in switching this preference. I'm in the middle of my test (was at high all morning, now I'm on battery saving). If it yields positive results, I may just root my phone! ;-)
G+_Joseph Cappellino
So, it doesn't seem to have yielded positive results. :,-( Proof here: https://plus.google.com/+JosephCappellino/posts/ZMkjwBnw4bk
