G+_Alex Hulinsky
So I'm wondering how hard would it be to make a solar powered WiFi repeater? I want to try and make one for at my farm, in a place where there is no power outlet. I feel like this shouldn't be too hard. Possible show idea? G+_Benjamin Webb
Not hard but expensive, looking at battery correctly sized probably looking at a 400+ AH of 12V battery for 24/7 operation of 15watt wifi with 3 days without sun and 50% drain then need to size solar panel depending on amount of sun and then add charge controller and fact the batteries will die in about 10 years. Figure about $600-$700 then need to buy wifi access point. Saw contained 17W prebuilt kits for a bit over a grand. Just run power where you need it or do POE. When it comes to off grid solar it's expensive to leave things on. Led lights are easy to run as long as you shut them down when not needed but solar gets expensive with anymore load than that. G+_Ben Reese
The Lasersaber YouTube channel had done a few videos on building a solar charger. I thought I saw a build with an integrated battery too, but I don't remember where.
