G+_Chuck Anderson
Need some help with my KH250. I've got it all put together, and when the Flip flight controller is connected to the computer via USB to the WinGUI program everything works fine - including the motors. As soon as I disconnect the USB everything goes dead. It appears that the FC is getting enough power to work through USB, but it's not getting power from the battery only. And since there is no direct power connection directly from the battery to the FC, how exactly is it supposed to get power? I'm assuming it's through the ESC's, right? Disconnected from the USB, when I plug the battery in the FC red light goes on for a couple of seconds and then goes off. No other lights turn on like they do when it's connected by USB. Therefore, what have I got going on here? What did I miss?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Look at the connections between the escs and the flip. Are the white wires towards the middle or the edge?
G+_Chuck Anderson
Whites towards middle, blacks to edge like in your videos. Also noticed that the red light goes out is not dependent on time, but as soon as I turn on the transmitter (if that makes a difference in the trouble-shooting). It does give the three tones when I plug in the battery though.
G+_Chuck Anderson
Just realized that when it has USB power and I plug the battery in it starts with 4 tones. With battery only it's the first 3 of those 4 tones. Also with battery only and then plugging in USB it does then do the 4 tones. Is there a "manual" somewhere that says what the tones mean? G+_Chuck Anderson
Found that a little while ago - nothing in there helped.
G+_Michael Heinz
Stupid question - do your ESCs have the word "OPTO" printed on them anywhere?
G+_Chuck Anderson
Wayne Hobbins I did review parts of this video previously, but watched almost all of it now (skipped the Ardrino flash part since it already comes flashed with 2.3) and nothing seemed to address the problem I have. I'm starting to think maybe I fried something on the board when I soldered the pins in. This was the first time I've soldered something onto an electronic board, and the first bunch of pins were not pretty ;-).
G+_Chuck Anderson
Michael Heinz No, they don't. They're "Ready To Fly Quads" 30A ESC's and don't have that on them.
G+_Chuck Anderson
Ok, I'm back, guys. I've tried a bunch of stuff (short of re-flashing the flight controller) and I still have the same problem. I bought another Flip flight controller (pre-soldered connections this time), and another power distribution board with pre-soldered connections - both of these to eliminate the possibility of it being due to my soldering connections., and I still have the same problem. Everything works fine if I've got it connected to the computer via the USB, but once I disconnect from the USB it's like the controller is getting no power. I also tried re-calibrating the ESC's again but found out I didn't need to do that because the motors just fired right up when I connected each of them to the throttle prong of the receiver. Anybody got anything else I can try? I seemed to have eliminated most of the possibilities that I can think of so I'm really frustrated now....... G+_Chuck Anderson
Ok, here are 3 pictures of what I have. Let me know if you need a picture of something specific - not sure what will help. https://goo.gl/photos/NREWAswreTHs4aum6
