G+_Joe C. Hecht
A tip for those thinking about pulling cat-5 network cable though the walls: I commonly see "Flat - Noodle Cable" on ebay that is perfect for tucking up under most baseboards. and can be a really fast and and alternative to running cable though the walls. The cost is usually about the same as standard cable, and I have even seen (and purchased) the flat cable in CAT5, CAT6, and CAT7 configurations. As a side note, flat cable is also great for installing a network in your car, but be forewarned that you do NOT want to use this on your boat, where nothing short of "best quality" marine grade (tinned and vibration resistant) cable will last any length of time at all. G+_Simon Zerafa
Does the cable not need to be round for the shielding etc to work correctly?
G+_Joe C. Hecht
Flat is probably not ideal. I would think that wire twisting probably has a greater effect on noise cancellation and cross talk, especially when the shielding of most of the cheaper wire is pretty lame to start with. On the other hand, if your running a small cable under a baseboard, you are probably not running a lot of other cables in close proximity, so the effect is probably very small. In short, we all like a great signal, but since it is digital, if it works, it works :)
