G+_iyaz akhtar
This week, we're going to show you how to move from an iOS device to Android.
G+_Steve Heistand
will this include moving a user's music collection off itunes and onto something more android friendly?
G+_Steve C
For me it would just be stopping the one and starting to use the other one. There's nothing to move really.
G+_Jason Elrick
Easy, I just did this. Best way is don't use iTunes or iCloud for anything, done. You can then freely move back and forth if you stick to 3rd party services. The only caveat is the apps. -Kindle for books -Dropbox for files (Google drive also works well here but there is less app integration on iOS as opposed to dropbox) -DRM free MP3s, (then use a cloud service to stream them) -DRM free movies or use ultraviolet of all things. Also amazon instant video I think works on both. -Oddly you can use google services for contacts, mail, calendar because they transfer nicely and offer cloud sync etc. -skype or hangouts are much better alternatives to facetime / imessage. Or you can use one of the 3rd party apps for messaging like Viber etc but that requires your friends opt in in any case. Facebook messaging also works well but people tend to hate you when you use it...
G+_Matthew Dougherty
Why would you want too in the first place?
G+_Jason Elrick
The one thing I would like to find out is what is a good non-root backup solution for android that works similar to icloud where you can seamlessly transition to a new phone and all your apps / app data comes with. Preferably something that uses a 3rd party cloud service to store the backup or maybe the SD card.
G+_Jason Elrick
Matthew Dougherty Test the waters, check out a competing platform, see if the grass is greener, explore new options. Basically curiosity or boredom really.
G+_Miranda Streeter
It would be interesting if you showed the reverse. And then iOS to Windows Phone. And then Windows to Android. And then back to Windows. See how much data you've lost!
G+_Cole Brodine
Jason Elrick - Amazon Instant Video can be tricky. There is currently no Android app available for Amazon Video (outside of Kindle). Newer Android phones don't have support for Flash. There are work-arounds, but for the average user it can be quite difficult to get Amazon Video working on some Android devices. It is especially frustrating, since there is an Amazon Video app on Kindle and on Google TV. It couldn't be that hard to get it working on other devices for Amazon. G+_Matthew Dougherty
Jason Elrick my comment was meant to be sarcastic, not serious. I do have an iPhone, but I do not knock any one for having android or anything else. I am happy with it. I have looked into switching, but a lot of the apps I use on a regular basis do not have an android version. So, I will stick with what I have and be just fine. I know people do want the option. My nephew switches back & forth every couple months.
G+_Jason Elrick
Matthew Dougherty No worries. I still think the internet needs a sarcasm punctuation mark. Cole Brodine That stinks. I haven't tried anything like that yet. I find it's easy to just rip my own movies and copy them to the device. I did the same thing with my iOS devices using either VLC or GoodPlayer. The downside was potentially having multiple copies to deal with since VLC couldn't see what was in GoodPlayer's library and vice versa.
G+_Cole Brodine
Jason Elrick - I mostly rip movies and TV shows from DVD also. I host them on a server with DLNA, with isn't as picky about what device I'm using. Where I get into trouble is with new TV shows. I'm a cord cutter, so I rely on Amazon for new episodes of certain TV shows as they air. Part of me is happy that I have an alternative to cable other than waiting a year for the season release on DVD. Another part of me is mad that I can't watch on my device because of politics between corporations.
G+_Jason Elrick
Cole Brodine Cord cutter here as well. I used to subscribe to new shows via iTunes. It usually downloaded a (protected?) file. I wonder if there is a way to use that somehow. Seems like it's easier to break Apple's security than amazons sometimes. Now I just wait for whole seasons on disc or digital depending. Some things I just don't care about watching mobile. Play store has some good content but there are a few holes compared to iTunes.
G+_Jason Elrick
Cole Brodine This looks promising http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/applications/11796-requiem-4-1-remove-itunes-drm-fairplay-music-video-books.html Probably something similar out there for amazon content. You can always side load flash and use firefox or dolphin browser. Flash 11.1 is available and it works on my GS4 for sure. Little laggy here and there. G+_iyaz akhtar
Vangelis Neroladakis I didn't realize how short the episode was. When it comes to project based episodes - the eps should only be as long as the project demands. I find padding unnecessary.
G+_Leopoldo Macias
I'm currently contemplating that very thought. As usual Iyaz, know how knows what I need before I do!
G+_Bruce Johnson
Jason Elrick Leo covered this on The Tech Guy a month or so ago and suggested the caller try Helium. I haven't, so I can't say whether it works for your needs, but that was his suggestion. ?
