Does anybody know of a electronics kit for something similar to Botanicalls (http://www.botanicalls.com/) or Parrot's "Flower Power" (http://www.parrot.com/flower-power/)?  I'd like to make a moisture sensor to tell me when the plants need watered, but I don't want to pay $99 for it.  Preferably something that could run off of batteries for an extended period and could communicate with something wireless like Bluetooth.  Indoor only would be fine also.  I just want it to use with house plants.

 

I don't mind paying something for it, but $99 a unit is too much for me.  I don't mind soldering either, so DIY stuff is great too!
