G+_Robert Hafer
Thought I’d try to sneak in one last question. I’m looking to rewire an old gas light that had been converted to electricity long ago ( as indicated by the cloth insulated wires). There’s no way I can snake standard lamp cord through the gas pipes. Can anyone recommend a thin flex type of wire that will take 110v? Maybe a thin gauge with silicone insulation? G+_Jon Weston
I'd look up the size of cable you need by googling 'current carrying capacity of a cable' then try to reduce the current needed by going to led lamps, to reduce the size to something that is suitable after you know the requirement of the new cable connect one end of the new cable to the old stuff and pull it through. G+_Sean Miller
Also if you go with LED's, you can use a powerbrick outside of the lamp to reduce the voltage to 12V DC (or 5V), which also reduces the wiresize.
G+_Paul Hutchinson
Single conductor lamp wire from Antique Lamp Supply should do the trick, they sell it by the foot or by the spool. https://www.antiquelampsupply.com/black-color-single-wire-stranded-copper-insulated-cord-type-awm-250-ft-spool-or-by-the-foot.html For white: https://www.antiquelampsupply.com/single-wire-insulated-cord-type-awm.html
G+_Ben Reese
Also, you only need to run a single conductor to each bulb then use the brass casing as the neutral. That'd allow you to run a larger conductor - say 14 AWG. #terribleAdvice #dontDoThis #deathLamp
