G+_Dan Jeffrey
Installed a New Synology DS1517+ on my home network on Tuesday. So far it's great! "Never doubt the Padre!" Thanks for the recommendation Padre. I bought this to replace a file server on RAID array I had set up in an old PC, but with a good 3-ware controller. Now the PC died, so I replaced with with Synology. From reading about it, I knew the Synology would be a reliable file server (we'll see, but so far so good). But I did not expect it to have so many other options -- plugins that do all kinds of stuff. And the software I have seen from them so far is top notch -- far better than I expected from a NAS company. After I get my files copied over, I will try the PLEX server. Then I want to try the git server -- for my own, internal version control (I'm a programmer).
G+_Dan Hockey
My DS715+II can run Docker VM's. Does your DS1517+ have the ability to run Docker VM's?
G+_Rud Dog
Dan Jeffrey if you don't mind what was your main real life reason for selecting the DS1517+ over the DS1515+. I have been eyeballing the DS1515+ for a very long time.
G+_Dan Jeffrey
Rud Dog Hi Rud Dog! I plan to keep this thing for a very long time, so I wanted the newest features available. The prices I saw were not too far apart and I wanted the latest of everything to extend the useful life. I did not have a compelling feature reason for going for the 1517 over the 1515. I just wanted the latest.
G+_Dan Jeffrey
Dan Hockey Hi Dan! Yes -- Docker is one of the optional packages available for my NAS. I have to try that out!
