G+_Harry Henze
Hello all, I have an old stand up radio. I wanted to turn it into a streaming radio(pandora, Apple Music, amazon music, Spotify). I don’t know if a raspberry pi would be the way to go, or even what else would be involved. I have never tried a raspberry pi project. Any advice or online tutorials would be greatly appreciated. G+_Jason Brown
I think that'd work fine. Ultimately, a Pi is just a micro PC running desktop Linux. I know you'll run into drm issues with sites like Hulu and Netflix, but I think most audio streaming sites should work okay. I'd install an inexpensive touchscreen. Those you can find on eBay. G+_Black Merc
If the radio still works well... Just get an audio transmitter(automotive store) to stream from any device(with a headphone jack).
G+_David Peach
I recently saw a project on Instructables doing exactly what you want. Raspberry Pi and Spotify. I would guess most streaming services will work. http://www.instructables.com/id/Converting-an-Old-Radio-Into-a-Spotify-Streaming-B/
G+_Ben Reese
If it has line-in, a Chromecast Audio would work well. But that's not near as fun as embedding a Raspberry Pi running OpenELEC or something.
G+_Harry Henze
Sorry for the quality but this is what I’m working with
G+_Black Merc
I'm thinking 'antiques road show'... Cannot tell from the darkened picture but, if it is in good or better condition, don't modify it very much, if at all. You may have a piece of history that many don't think much of now days. G+_David Peach
For some reason Ben Reese, I don't think it will have a line-in option. :-) I also did an Instructable on how to broadcast via bluetooth and AM transmitter to an old radio like this. No modification of the radio at all. My radio worked fine, so I just had to build a bluetooth to AM transmitter and then tune the radio to the right frequency. It makes the radio into a bluetooth speaker but still gives that warm and scratchy AM sound to the audio. https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Add-Bluetooth-to-a-Vintage-Radio/
G+_Harry Henze
The lights come on but no sound or even static, antique wise it’s worth maybe $
G+_Black Merc
Whatever you do, try your best to keep the outer look as-is. For the nostalgia effect.
