G+_Tyler Pearson
Almost done with my Collision Avoidance setup but had a few questions about the wiring and running power. I will be using a 5v 2a USB charger that I have positive and negative wires coming from. I originally estimated the arduino and 40 WS2812b LEDs would need 3 A about but when testing my meter was showing less then an amp and Jo where near 2a even so I guess I'll be ok. My main issue is if I should be putting the capacitors and resistor as I have them. From my research it seems not necessary but best practices to add a 1000uf capacitor before the old strips and a 220ohm resistor in the data line from the arduino. I know Padre also mentioned something about noise from the LEDs if as they pull different amounts of power depending on the color so I was thinking of adding another 1000uf capacitor to maybe help with the noise?? I couldnt find any info or products called a filter circuit as Padre talks about on the same episode that he use coming off the voltage regulator(ubec) to separate the power between the LEDs and the arduino. It looked like a capacitor and something else on a board. Through research I found mention of using a capacitor between reset and ground as well as 5v/Vin and ground so I figured it would do the same. UltraSonic sensor in image only has 3 connections blue and purple represent trigger and echo on different posts. Both capacitors are 1000uf Resistor is 220ohm Power supply is 5v 2a wall charger Led represents a ws2812b strip 40 LEDs I have it working fine with the arduino running off USB and LEDs off a battery but needed some confirmation before I did the final wire up in its enclosure and powered both the arduino and LEDs off the same power source. Thanks.
G+_Branden Snyder
What is the device to the right of the Arduino in your picture?
G+_Tyler Pearson
It's supposed to represent the power supply. 5v 2amps. I used circuits.io by Autodesk.
G+_Branden Snyder
That looks good to me! Not sure if you need the capacitor on the Arduino but it won't hurt anything
G+_Tyler Pearson
Branden Snyder Thanks. Ya I was thinking not but I remember Padre talking about the LEDs can pull different amps or something depending on color and brightness and it can add noise or end up causing the arduino to get dirty power which is why he used a noise filter from the Ubec in his christmas lights. Just couldn't find anything called a pwer/noise filter. Saw a capacitor mentions to stop the arduino from resetting from dirty power so I figured it would be fine as a precaution.
