Are you looking for a smtp via snmp data packet capture or the actual information like a keylogging type of data capture because you may consider a device verses software because as of yet there are clever written scripts in software code but unless you have access to IBM's Watson S M A R T software is massive collaboration of simple devices, So an snmp with smtp can be setup but maybe try looking at IFTTT see if they have what you want or contact them they may point you in the right direction https://ifttt.com/

OH  I see in that case I would look at a backup solution before a checker software that will use snmp with smtp to warn you before the drive fails maybe sync on some free cloud storage maybe microsoft or my favorite Google then back up into a google email account you can email files to that account it will save up to 15 g of email and attachments per account ;) then look at some program to monitor the health of the drive the best are meant for server storage and  if you're on linux there're a lot of good options got to filter through hundreds of programs I don't know much about mac but I'm sure there would be lots of l ow cost programs Apple would love to tell you to buy a new drive from them, windows I've seen a lot usually in a bundle now without smtp I recommend having a spare hard drive,  bluray, mdisc, or archival  grade media and to get a cheep machine or flash drive and get a few software like piriform  ccleaner and recuva at https://www.piriform.com/download  and puran utilities at http://www.puransoftware.com/Puran-Utilities-Download.html keep those on your machine and a junk machine just to check and recover software and data as far as a monitor with smtp I wouln't know of a failsafe or anywhere perfect option however even if you get a  warning there's no garentee that your hard drive won't fail before you get home so that's why I gave those suggestions. I always find things are almost what I need but not exactly now Acronis looks promising and might be what you need I might check  it out on a server build I'm working on Cudos to +Øystein Dyb Hanssen for that find! I wish you luck!
