So tossing this out for feedback

So tossing this out for feedback. I have a Galaxy S2.. thru my office .  Two of us got hem with days of each other.  BEcause the person who orders them did not want one of us to wait, order a "classic" S2 and a few days later the one that was "in stock"  .. a Skyrocket. So the guy with the Skyrocket comes in all pumped about getting JB upgrade .. asks me how I like it .. I have nothing .. checked and nope .. AT&T and Kies both tell me I'm at the latest ver. So OK .. I'm no Apple fan but I'm willing to admit when they are right .. and this time they are.  Millions of Android phones out there running all kinds of different versions ...  and of course software gets developed .. Especially Google's for the latest... so ...  There is no real reason for this .. but Google seems to not be concerned .. they do NOTHING to fix it  ...  is this just the way it will be?

Well the article you link to proves my point. There are a bunch of different G S2s.. very subtle differences between them .. some get JB some don't.  As to the "tinker" comment .. ya .. like Linux? to be always for those nerdy, geeky types who can roll their own code? I don't buy that. I think a better comparison is to Windows. I don't have to be a geek to run Windows .. but I can draw on the work of a very talented people to give my programs, utilities, etc that make Windows fit better.  Thru it all tho MS kept giving me updates to patch problems .. they did not abandon me.  That's what I feel Google is doing .. Sure some people will say it's AT&T holding back .. but they don't hold iPhone updates thru .. because Apple will not let them ... or some will say it's Samsung .. could be ... but there again .. Google has a lot of clout .. they just do not choose to use it.  I guess the lesson is buy nothing but  Nexus phones or tablets Hell maybe thats what Googles plan is.. and I guess that's what I'll do next time around..  I still think this fragmentation shows that in some ways Google does not care as much as some fan boys would love to say they do.

Android is open source. Samsung just takes the Android code and puts their touchwiz on top of it. Google has no say over what other manufactures do with Android they only control the nexus line. Yes, fragmentation is a huge issue with Android that I'm sure Google would love to solve but it would require great deal of calibration between all the manufactures, carriers, and developers. I dream of that day to come.

Google wants these to get updated but it's up to the maker of the phone and if you got a carrier version it's up the the carrier as well. In this case AT&T are being dbags and not realising a Samsung update. Google can only update the phones it has control over. Lesson of this story: buy nexus no matter what.

It was confusing when all the s2's came out. There are about a half dozen different ones, maybe more. A friend has the epic touch and his is rooted. He says they are all different in their own stupid little way. The s3 was supposed to change all that for Samsung but they still released several different versions. It's stupid no doubt. Quite possibly the only thing the iPhone has over android Imo.

Well as Lucas Nichols mentioned .. the problem seems to be "which" S2 .. AT&T has updated some (or is it Samsung .. very confusing) .. but I have the SGH-I777 .. and that one apparently is not getting the love .. sigh .. Oh well  now I just wait until this contract is up and go get a Nexus I guess .. so maybe in the long run it's a good thing
