i think its base on an overall system fingerprint.  A single change shouldn't flag anything.

I believe officially, it's linked to the motherboard. That's the case with customers built desktop machines. Not sure if that's the case with pre-built desktops or laptops

Technically Eddie Foy is correct.

 

However in my (admittedly limited) experience, changing the motherboard is enough to count as a "change".

 

If at all possible, make one change at a time, let windows be happy, then make another.  Either that, or just be willing to call support...it's really not that painful a process at least the few times I've had to do it

I don't think that you'll have a problem, but the worst case will be having to reactivate Windows over the phone.

I've had to call them once to get it activated after switching motherboard. Except the crappy audio quality over the phone everything went well.
