G+_Lennie Craig
Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me. My modem/router combo is on the main floor and I would like to run a line through the floor to the basement (unfinished so I can see there are no wires that I would hit if I made the hole). Now when I run this line I would like to connect possibly two devices (media box and laptop). So the question I have is, if I run the line from the modem/router (it's a 2wire) can I connect it to another router to allow for multiple connections in the basement? G+_Lennie Craig
Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it. Looks like a trip to the store could be in order (if not then defiantly amazon)
G+_james robinson (radiati
yea any small network switch will do. 5-port ones can easily be had for around $
G+_Lennie Craig
Thanks. I figure it's a good time to get this setup and figured out before we decide to finish the basement. This way I can run cable anywhere. It's true what Padre says on the show, this community is helpful and fast.
G+_Lucas Van Enger
You might also consider a switch that can act as a wireless bridge since you we wanting to connect a laptop...
G+_Joe K
Or setup a PowerLine adapter/wifi extender if you're shy about poking holes in your floor.

G+_Michael Renyard
Another thing to remember about the power line option is that if the rooms are on different cuciuts the connection will most likely won't work.
G+_james robinson (radiati
Michael Renyard you mean different phases. The circuit is irrelevant on the same phase.
G+_Joseph Sacco
If you can. I would put the router/modem downstairs with a larger switch and then run home runs from there to all the other rooms that you can access
