G+_Tony Padgett
iyaz akhtar Thanks for the episode on making a home studio. You all talked about the audio in, ie the mic. What about the audio out?. I see people with huge headsets which make them look like they are sportscasters. Then I also see people using just normal earpods, but makes them look like they are listening to their iPods. Can you recommend something less noticeable and which I can plug into my computer? Thanks.
G+_Alex Knutson-Smisek
I think Leo Laporte and some other hosts often use in ear monitors such as the Ultimate Ears brand from logitech. These are supposed to be more accurate in sound reproduction and stay out of the way better but are also way more expensive. Otherwise you might look for less expensive ear buds that can wrap around the back of the ear to better stay out of the way.
G+_Vic Bowker
Leo uses the AKG K 240 Semi-Open Studio Headphones most of the time(at least on The Tech Guy)
G+_Tony Padgett
Vic Bowker, really? Those look like over the ear headphones. Whenever I see him do a KH show, they are using some kind of earpods.
G+_Michael Kickingbear
I think it really depends on the environment that you are in to determine which set of headphones you want to wear. Also comfort is a factor (at least for me) because if you are in your studio a lot, and are using something for a long time, then something like Leo's AKG's are nice to wear. Also, are you a person who needs to hear him or herself when recording or broadcasting? Then comfort WITH sound quality may matter more to you
G+_Vic Bowker
Tony Padgett Unless he's changed. He mentioned them one day on The Tech Guy Show...
G+_Tony Padgett
Sorry, everyone--maybe I wasn't clear. I am talking about video podcasts. If you watch KH video, I do not see Leo or Iyaz using headsets. They are actually walking around on the set and doing things.
G+_Michael Kickingbear
Could be any number of things. Bluetooth possibly.
G+_iyaz akhtar
Tony Padgett We use a little in-ear monitor like this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/300734-REG/Otto_Engineering_V110437_Single_IFB_Earphone_Kit.html That's connected to a wireless pack that lets us hear what's going on. At TNT, that earpiece is just wired in.
G+_Tony Padgett
iyaz akhtar Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for and glad to see it is not that expensive. So, if we are doing video podcasts via Skype or Google hangouts, I think I can then just plug into my computer out earphone jack?
G+_iyaz akhtar
Tony Padgett That ought to do it.
