G+_Tony Padgett
iyaz akhtar, here's a show suggestion: What to do with hard drives that no longer work? Can you take them apart and somehow revive them? If not, what is the best way to dispose of them, both from an environmental and security perspective, especially if you don't have a disposal service in your location (I live in Singapore)? G+_Tony Padgett
Thanks. I'm actually looking more about the physical unit. Say the power is not working....can I take that drive and put it in a new casing? I think that is possible, but any way to do that to get the best results? And, of course, how to dispose of the unit if putting it in a new casing doesn't help.
G+_William Tate
I have before replaced the PCB on the bottom of a hard drive to get it working again. I did an advanced RMA of the drive. Took off the board from the new one, and put it on the old one. Drive worked good. I recovered my data, wiped the drive, then replaced the boards back to original positions. G+_bryant thompson
when they are totally dead I take the covers off them, take out the platters and stuff and use the housings ( which are assembled and sealed in cleanrooms) for ashtrays. Nerd Humor.
