G+_Ronald Kurr
ISP Ping Time Shaming Woes I went to determine my ping times as described by Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ in the last KH but ran into a snag. I can't find my ISP's gateway address! I've got a Motorola SB6141 cable modem and logged into its web interface. Unfortunately, the gateway address is not listed. Anybody have any ideas of where else I might look to get this information? I also checked my routers' web interface and it has no idea either. #ping
G+_Travis Hershberger
traceroute (Linux/Unix) or tracert (Windows) should find it for you. In it's listing it should be the 2nd hop unless your running an advanced/oddball network setup.
G+_Eddie Foy
traceroute has the perk of the times between hops so you can see where the slow down is. ping > traceroute > netstat a happy trifecta.
G+_Travis Hershberger
I like iperf as well, but it's hard to find a web based server to test on unless you have one of your own.
