G+_Storm Mcleod
anyone know how i can go about DIY thermal imaging camera? If would be awesome to see a drone use this. Had some of this tech in the military, figure its only a matter of time before therm cams reach drone land!
G+_Eddie Foy
Seen add-ons for iPhones (not sure about androids) Could fly one of those. My thermal cam would weigh the quad down. As for DIY, I dunno. Making one would be a bit tough, then light enough to fly?
G+_610GARAGE
Building a thermal imaging camera would be like building a HD video camera. Even if you could get your hands on the sensor, you would spend more money building it than it would cost to buy. And it would probably not be as good. Your best bet in getting a thermal imaging camera would be what Eddie Foy said. A small android cell phone and sensor would be light enough to fly, have onboard battery, and have the potential to send the video to a pov system. If you can find a small hdmi to an analog rca signal.
G+_Jason Marsh
I've seen instructions for removing a filter from a digital camera to get IR imaging, but it was a while back and I have no idea how I came across it.
G+_John Mink
610bob why go to RCA vs just use miracast or some other form of screensharing for sending images?
G+_610GARAGE
Jason Marsh I've heard of that too. But I don't think that that would be powerful enough to distinguish a small animal in the bushes. John Mink Lag. I was thinking that you could use the infrared system as the main fpov camera.

G+_Eddie Foy
80x60 pixels isn't going to be too useful at altitude. (that's 1/280 mega-pixles) If you want to use optics on them, I heard you need saphire optics. Regular glass doesn't work with FLiR
G+_Ron Nichols
This was the video that sparked my curiosity in thermal imaging a while back. Then I saw the price of the Tau systems and moved on to other projects :) Either way, some interesting, real world examples.
