G+_Storm Mcleod
Well I had an idea would be cool to see a proof of concept on. Dont have the cash to throw at this right now. Would love to see if this would work as a good solution for backing up of data. I know i can array a bunch of USB flash drives with a software raid. Should be able to do the same with MSATA setup as well. Would this work well? that Would i get even faster speed like i can with USB array? IE writing to all at the same time? Also maybe one other thing might to be able to be answered. What is the deal with SSD cards? i looked at some PCIe bus. Way faster read and write. What would i want to use these for? G+_Bill Crowe
An SSD on a PCI bus will make your computer faster, but the real functional use I have for this set up is video capture and editing. The get fast enough data transfer rates for non-compressed HD or 4k UHD, an SSD on a PCI bus is a must.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Bill Crowe That's one great use for sure. The other area I can think of pcie flash being used (if it's really an SSD, that makes it slower than it should be) is in servers. Need a database server that can do 1,000,000 iops, pcie is the "cheap" option. I put cheap in quotes because all things are relative, and nobody I know would call one of the high performance pcie attached flash device inexpensive. On a per iop basis they make way more sense.
