G+_Storm Mcleod
Security cam question here. I got my home set but i want to get something out in my storage. I got a fear that my ex might want to raid it while i am not around. I know the rind door bell has log battery life and is wireless. Wondering if there if there might be something more ideal for this application. Requirements: long battery(IE least 20 days between charges), wireless(is in range of wifi), motion detection, and notification. Hope there something for around $100. I have been poking around on the internet for something but no dice yet. Also I have started using ispyconnect for my motion detection monitoring. Working well so far. Wondering if there something else better for monitoring and recording. Also is there pro option be something i could use to setup for security jobs for business that might ask me to install? Thanks everyone.
G+_Eddie Foy
Game cam? 20 days is pushing it.
G+_Clint Weisgerber
Eddie Foy I was thinking the same thing. You could do a battery setup, but you're either going to need some big batteries or a solar cell. Is there not somewhere with power nearby that you could just point the camera at the area instead of actually setting the camera up at the location? G+_Jason Perry
Is there a light bulb? There is your power source. Screw in an adapter. Didnt even think of the game cam, great idea. Wayne Hobbins, I am going to have to look into those. Have you noticed any environmental changes since you started using them? I have quite a few fireflies where I am and dont want to do anything to chase them away. Kinda made me think does IR deter any sort of animal? Obviously not cats, cyotes, and rabbits. G+_Eddie Foy
A couple of solar panels could keep a SLA battery topped up.
G+_Ben Reese
Could always go DIY too. Raspberry Pi with a camera could be setup for <$60 then you just need the battery to power it between charges.
G+_Ben Reese
Also, have you considered a lock for the door? A padlock is pretty affordable. Or are you just hoping to catch the Ex in the act?
G+_Jason Marsh
Shallow trench + Cat5 + Low-tech PoE I've used a shovel to open a shallow trench, more like a 3 inch cut through the sod, to bury cable for an outdoor, low-voltage project. It's not that involved, and you just walk the line to push the soil closed like a zipper. You could use just about any IP camera, wired or wifi, and provide power over the cat5 or other low-voltage wire. Have a look at your local big-box home and garden store. They'll have the wire, the shovel, a decent hasp and padlock, as well as a super-obvious fake rock or owl to hide the cam.
G+_Eddie Foy
Jason Marsh just use direct bury cable.
