G+_Neil Carmichael
I like the idea of my phone saving the world to that end I'm thinking of installing BOINC so when the phone is on charge, the battery over 90% and its on wifi, the phone becomes part of a worldwide cluster doing things like cancer research, has anyone done this and what are the disadvantages? G+_610GARAGE
Phones, generally don't like being ran hard. They heat up, which diminishes their lifespan. But if you decide to run this program, remember to give the phone plenty of ventilation to cool off. That means no bulky case, or anything sitting on top of it. Also make sure that your phone can handle %100 cpu on a charger (and still have enough power left over to charge). I was using my note 1 in a car for navigation while charging. The phone got hot, continued to discharge the battery, and at the end, glitched out. It never acted the same again. So now, anytime I'm running navigation, I don't charge. I believe its a little easier on the power regulation system. Granted, gps is a power hog, probably way more then the cpu. But it is something to keep in mind. G+_Jason Marsh
I BOINCed once and filled my house with magic smoke. To be fair, that was a PC and it was running @ 100% cpu utilization for months and months. I don't think I want to do so with my phone.
