G+_Jason Brown
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ There's been a lot of talk regarding the security of our IoT devices. Do you think you could go over turning your Internet of Things devices into Intranet of Things devices? I love the idea of IoT. But my paranoia forces me to make my less trustworthy device into internal network devices only. Is there any requirement for normal IoT devices to touch the Internet at all? (e.g. like for updates or some kind of validation from the manufacturer? My ignorance and fear has kept me from even looking into it.

G+_Robert Hafer
Having an Intranet of Things starts with a smart hub. I use Indigo, a Mac only solution, but I’ve heard good things about Home Assistant and OpenHAB. The software runs on a computer in your home, and on your network, making you in charge of security. Some modern IoT devices only work by talking to the cloud ??, but older technology like Insteon and Z-wave bind exclusively to a controller. Indigo and OpenHAB have plugins to work with Arduino so you can make your own devices ?
