G+_Travis Hershberger
That's what I've been wanting to build. Mount a gas motor for a model airplane coupled to a large electric motor (probably also one used for model airplanes). Running on just the miniature generator and charging the battery at the same time isn't going to leave much power to have much fun. However, when the battery is charged, you can combine the power from the generator and the battery..... More POWER!
G+_Travis Hershberger
Wayne Hobbins Well, any 2 stroke is going to tend in that direction. I'd be looking for either a 4 stroke or turbine (tho the price of a turbine, ouch.) Obviously just any old model motor isn't going to work well. G+_Travis Hershberger
A 2 stroke? Really? #fail I know 4 strokes and turbines are more expensive, but they really are called for in this instance. I liked the final project a college engineering student did using the same idea. He mounted the small motor, dynamo, and gas on those larger landing gear legs that most places carry for parts. It's somewhere down in the feed history here. Mounting the battery inside or on top of the frame would at least give some separation should someone's flying skills no be quite up to par. G+_Travis Hershberger
I just noticed that the 2 stroke motors directly drive the props. I'm way more impressed with the exorbitantly expensive commercial drone that can go for 2 hours, and is already available.
